Vitamin C and Veni, vidi, vici

Was surprised to learn that in Latin/Italian 'C' is pronounced as 'K' or 'CH'. In Russian we pronounce as 'TS' like in 'tsar'. The research figured out, that there are two version of 'latin latin' - classic one with 'K' and 'church' one with 'CH' before some vowels. In addition, there are three modern traditions: Italian, German (Russia uses this one) and English, and each modern tradition has a list of deviations from '"latin latin".

Math linguistics

Reading memoirs of Liliana Lungina, mother of Pavel Lungin  (film director, The Island).
So broad coverage of USSR life, literature and theater, and - slap in the face to my profession.

Pavlic was studying math linguistics. It was years when this stupid profession, which doesn't even exist in reality, was very fashionable. Linguistics is linguistics, math is math, but there is no math linguistics.
